Lapse

A Lapse occurs when a life insurance policy terminates because the policyholder missed premium payments and didn’t have enough cash value to cover the costs. Once lapsed, the policy no longer provides a death benefit or other benefits unless it’s reinstated.

Lapses can be avoided by staying on top of premium payments or by choosing options like automatic premium loans. Knowing the consequences can help policyholders avoid losing valuable coverage.
